The 61-Billion-Dong Diamond Was Almost Thrown Away Because It Was Thought to Be Fake

The lucky woman bought the 61 billion VND diamond at an unbelievably cheap price

The 70-year-old woman, who wished to remain anonymous, found the coin-sized diamond while cleaning her house in Northumberland (England). She could not even remember where and when she had originally bought it.

Mark Lane, a longtime auctioneer in North Shields, said: “She often bought items at ‘car boot sales,’ a discount sale event that is a wonderful place to buy unique jewelry pieces at low prices. It is also a great opportunity to find one-of-a-kind items that you may not find in shopping centers.”

She thought the jewelry item was fake because it was “lying in her wedding ring box along with some low-value jewelry,” Lane said.

She was about to throw the diamond into the trash when a neighbor advised her to bring it to Lane’s company for appraisal.

In an excerpt from Mason’s book, an elderly woman found a diamond in her trash bin. She was about to throw it away, but a neighbor advised her to bring it to Lane’s company for appraisal. The woman had picked up the diamond there but was told it was worthless. Featonby’s center had never auctioned diamonds of such great value and quality before.

Lane’s first thought when she found a “large stone” was that it was a zirconia stone. This is a synthetic stone commonly used as a substitute for diamonds to reduce product costs. These stones are hard and cut like natural diamonds, but they are not the same as real diamonds. So, Lane kept it on her desk for a few days, but it turned out to actually be a real diamond!

Featonby’s partners had seen many stones like Lane’s, but they knew it needed to be authenticated by Diamonds International based in London. Fortunately, Lane eventually put the stone through a diamond-testing machine, which then sent it to Featonby’s London-based partners.

Surprisingly, an expert in Antwerp, Belgium confirmed that the diamond weighed 34 carats. Saying: “It is very rare to find a 34-carat diamond with color and clarity like this.

The diamond is currently located in London’s Hatton Garden jewelry district, awaiting auction on November 30.
