At the 2026 Heritage Diamond International Conference held on May 23rd at Hilton Saigon, Mr. Fabio Cascapera - Chairman of the Singapore Diamond Exchange - shared his insights on the current diamond market landscape.

He did not hesitate to affirm: Lab-grown diamonds now have almost no liquidity value. Production costs have nearly reached zero, retail prices have dropped sharply, and global consumers increasingly understand that these are two products for two entirely different segments – they cannot be placed on the same scale.

Meanwhile, natural diamonds are showing remarkable resilience. Figures from the conference indicate: diamonds of 3 carats and above are in a clear price recovery cycle from late 2025. The 20-carat segment maintained a consistent price increase. And the total global consumption of natural diamond jewelry in 2025 reached USD 110 billion – with expectations to hit USD 160 billion by 2032, primarily driven by demand from Asia.

The true value of natural diamonds

To understand why high-quality natural diamonds are truly valuable assets, we need to look directly at their geological nature and scarcity.

But not all diamonds are asset-value diamonds. The colorless diamonds D–F, the highest standard on the GIA color scale, account for less than 1% of the total quality gem diamond production worldwide. And fancy color diamonds, formed under extremely special geological conditions, account for less than 2%.
